Equus on Blue
Tim Flach is a graduate of St. Martins School of Art where he studied Photography & Painted Structures. Having spent the last twenty years as a highly successful advertising photographer working with clients such as Adidas, Cirque du Soleil, Jaguar and Sony, Flach has more recently been focusing on his own personal work.
Flach has mainly become renown for his highly stylized animal portraits, which are far removed from traditional wildlife photography’s images of animals observed in their natural habitat.
With his project Equus Flach turned his creative attention to horses, aiming to capture the emotion that horses evoke in us rather than to simply take a photograph of a horse. Flach brings his subjects into such close focus that the viewer begins to read the gestures and body language as we would a human being. His photographs evoke pathos, humour and an unmistakably intimate human empathy.
Tim Flach’s work has been featured in publications such as Creative Review and Stern Magazine, and he has also received many international photography awards including the Association of Photography and British Design & Art Direction Awards and the International Photography Awards Professional Photographer of the Year. His work has been widely exhibited in the UK, US and Far East and Tim has also lectured extensively around the world. Tim’s work was documented by Discovery’s Animal Planet channel charting the progress of his seven year long project. Tim Flach’s major photographic book Equus was published in 2009 by PQ publishing.
